Allegiant Air pulls out of Worcester

Channel 4 Boston is reporting that Allegiant Air is ceasing its Worcester service. I've not been able to find any formal announcements from Allegiant, but a check of the Allegiant Air Website doesn't show any travel dates available after September 3rd, so it appears that the story is correct. Channel 4 reports that Allegiant pulled out due to the high cost of fuel. This is unfortunate, especially considering that their passenger load factors were reported to be excellent. They started service at ORH on December 22, 2005 with 4 departures per week, Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays with great fanfare. At some point they reduced to 2 weekly flights, which is understandable, with summer being a slow time for flights to Florida.
