Norwood under water again - Reopened 4/6

George Clark writes: … For the 2nd time in a month, Norwood ( Airnav:OWD ) is under water. Word from Airport Manager Russ Maguire:

Unfortunately, I was forced to close the Norwood Airport last night to all fixed-wing aircraft. Both runways are once again impacted by flood waters from the Neponset River. All of our taxiways are similarly flooded. While the flood plain waters continue to rise, a rough estimate for re-opening is eight days hence. Of course, this is predicated on a little help from Mother Nature, who, it could be argued, has not been kind to OWD in the month of March. Thanks.

ALERT! Update: 4/6 - Norwood reopened

Good afternoon all--

Earlier today, we officially re-opened the Norwood Airport (again) to fixed-wing aircraft. A full-scale commitment from our clean-up contractor actually allowed us to re-open sooner than we had originally estimated.

In a few minutes, we'll begin to re-test the runway/taxiway edge lighting systems and electrical signage. If, based on our observations, these systems look reliable, we'll report them back in service. Should we otherwise determine that they've been compromised by the flood waters, we'll continue to carry the notam and field condition reports indicating that our runway/taxiway lighting and signage are out of service. This will then require some additional attention from our airfield lighting contractor. In this scenario, we'll then be a daytime-use only airport to fixed-wing aircraft until we can correct our lighting system problems.

Any and all changes will be reported to Flight Service and the Norwood Airport air traffic control tower. Thanks to all for your patience.

Russ
