TFR over Cape and Islands Updated: Add Boston!

George Clark writes:Update Another TFR, this one over Boston, goes into effect Friday August 28th at 9:00 PM, running through Saturday August 29th at 5:00 PM. See http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_9_7030.html for the details. Remember, anyone inside the 30 NM ring must be on an active IFR or VFR Flight Plan, and may activities including practice and training flights are prohibited. And as always, check with FSS for the latest updates.

Another update... One more over Falmouth on the 30th. See http://tfr.faa.gov/save_pages/detail_9_7301.html

A presidential movement TFR will be established Sunday August 23rd, beginning over Falmouth, and then moving to Martha's Vinyard through Sunday August 30th. The good news for GA is that this time the TSA has recognized that it is not practical to shut off the islands from aviation for the week. Although now too late for this Sunday, there is a process to obtain access to MVY with 72 hours advanced notice. Check the NOTAMs right before you leave as things can change without notice.

And for a brief editorial comment, I hope that the President has an opportunity to drop in on Katama during his stay. He should see the first hand effects of his movement on General Aviation. And understand that cutting off GA during the height of the summer vacation season could be devastating to small businesses like Katama.

AOPA reports the following:

****Special Security Procedures****

All pilots arriving to or departing from Martha's Vineyard Airport (KMVY)
must register for a waiver from the FAA and complete security screening
before their flight (those operating under a TSA-approved standard security
program, such as airline operations, are exempted from this requirement). Pilots
can apply for the waiver from the FAA at: ( https://waiver.c3.faa.gov/ )
All applications must be submitted at least 72 hours in advance.

Once the waiver has been obtained, and prior to arrival to or departure from
Martha's Vineyard Airport, all pilots must undergo TSA screening.

Flights departing from Martha's Vineyard will be screened at KMYV.

Flights arriving to Martha's Vineyard must first be screened at a gateway airport.
Gateway airports have been created by the TSA at Westchester County Airport (KHPN),
Barnstable Municipal-Boardman/Poland Airport (KHYA) and Green State Airport
(KPVD).

TSA screening times at KMVY and Gateway Airports are 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m.
(local) daily.

*** AOPA requests that all pilots who complete screening at a gateway
airport, or whose successful completion of intended flight is hindered, please
send us an email (mailto:pilotassist@aopa.org?subject=MarthasVineyardTFR ) and
let us know how the implications of this TFR affected you. AOPA will share
the information with the Obama administration.
