Sterling Glider Rides with GBSC a success

George Clark writes: … Several WAPA Members and guests were able to get together on short notice for glider rides at Sterling Airport (Airnav:3b3), with the Greater Boston Soaring Society It was a great afternoon. If you have not experienced adverse yaw, a couple of turns in the glider made it really obvious. On my flight, the instructor found a bit of a wave off Mt. Wachusett - it was quite the experience sitting apparently motionless, 40 kts. forward speed, no engine, and climbing. Comments from some of the members in attendance included:

Though I did not opt for the glider ride I also had a great day enjoying the conversation and fine weather. Sterling is a great place to kick back and relax. Thanks for putting this together!!

It was an excellent experience!. Not only because we got to fly the gliders, but also because we spent most of the day watching them operate and talking about flying. I wouldn't give up on powered flight, though. I think that going to Martha's Vineyard in a glider and coming back could be quite a challenge.

Special thanks to Richard Gammon and everyone at the GBSC for putting all of this together!

A photo-gallery from the event is now posted on the WAPA Web at PhotoGallery2007x10x21x0 Members, if you have any to add, go ahead and attach them to the gallery.

It must be that the airplane's propeller serves only to cool the pilot off… Because if you make it stop, he sure starts to sweat.
