Massachusetts anti-GA group sues to stop aerobatics, training

George writes: EAA is reporting on a new pilot group forming in Massachusetts: The American Free Skies Association. AFSA will fight the actions of Stop the Noise (STN). According to the article

"STN members have filed $1 million lawsuits against local aerobatic pilots Steven Pennypacker, Michael Goulian, Kent Christman, and Pete Bocon; the Executive Flyers Aviation (EFA) flight school; and an aerobatic aircraft partnership. …. Those in the aviation community interested in getting involved or contributing to a legal defense fund should e-mail Schmidt at mailto:peter@freeskies.org, or call him at 781/863-5200. A new website, http://www.freeskies.org, is under construction and should be live soon."

The last I saw about this was the AOPA Regional Rep. report on the AOPA website. There was a meeting between the STN and pilots moderated by a staffer of Senator Kennedy's. They had supposedly come to an accord. If they did, that's obviously down the tubes.

If you look at their web site, these fanatics goal is to completely do away with recreational flying. They're nuts. Dangerous nuts, but still nuts.

[http://avweb.com/][AvWeb.com]] has a lot more information http://www.avweb.com/eletter/archives/avflash/157-full.html including quotes from Mike Goulian:

"It's going to cost us at least $20,000 to $50,000 to fight this," he told AVweb yesterday. "That's a big expense. The worrisome part -- besides the money, and my future and my living -- is the precedent this can set for others nationwide."

and Peter Schmidt

"[This] has been a real wake-up call that it's time for the aviation community to do something proactive."
