New interactive Wings Seminar online, and some Flight Planning links

George writes: I just took theAOPA Air Safety Foundation Web-based Wings Seminar: Single-Pilot IFR. It was easy to take and reasonably interesting, complete with animations, video and audio. At the conclusion they send you a certificate of completion that can be used to qualify for Wings. I usually find Flash animations don't add much to a web page, but in this case it was a very good use of the Macromedia Flash product. So here is yet another way to get started on the FAA Wings Program, while being a couch potato with the laptop.

I also came across some interesting links for IFR pilots. The Searchable Preferred Routes Database is one that will save a time when hunting for routings in the AFD. This is one of a number of Online Products offered by the FAA ATC Command Center

Finally, the Aviation Weather Center has some interesting products. For IFR flight, the Icing Page product gives an interesting look at Ice [hint: mouse over the altitude column on the right side of the display] The original version of this article referenced the experimental "Current Icing Potential" page, which has been replaced by this new Icing page
