WAPA 2003 Picnic Report

George writes:

The WAPA Picnic was held on June 28th and a good time was had by all. It turned out to be a beautiful day. Jack Kvalita organized the food; Hot dogs, Sausages, H?amburgs, Salad, Watermellon, Soft Drinks, everything was Great! Turnout was light, most likely due to the short notice. Jack - with all his bluster - managed to loose the spot landing contest. (It would have helped if we told him the rules in advance - that he had to land on or after the touchdown point). John Munn gave me a few last minute pointers, and this pilot from Worcester managed to win.

Paul Horanzy did a great job filling baggies with lime for the "flour bombing". Of course here we all were, digging baggies filled with white powder out of a big tub, as the police drove by. Nah…. That didn't look suspicious. Unfortunately Paul was unable to make it in time for the contest, due to prior conflicts. Marc Catanese borrowed Jack's plane and aced the flour bombing contest.

I think that Gregg Andrews wins the prize for being the furthest off with the flour bombing (unless he mistook me for the target). His first attempt landed on the runway, right near where I was standing, taking pictures of planes as they turned base to final. And as I got out of there, his 2nd attempt landed where I had been standing. Hey Gregg, what did I ever do to you?

Please check out the Poll on the front page and/or displayed with the story. Should we go for another picnic later this year?

"Request Runway 27 Right." | "Unable." | "Approach, do you know the wind at six thousand is 270 at fifty?" | "Yeah, I do, and if we could jack the airport up to fifty-five hundred you could have that runway. Expect 14 Right." --ORD Tower
