Unescorted vehicle access at ORH

Eric Waldron writes: As you may be aware, we have been working on a system for ID Badges to allow unescorted access to the Worcester Regional Airport General Aviation Area by based pilots. We have decided to go with the new Massachusetts Aeronautical Commission (MAC) photo ID badges.

This new system will mainly be divided into two levels. The first level will have the wording Ramp Driver on the ID badge and will allow you to drive your Worcester Airport registered vehicle to and from either Gate 10 (at Swissport) or Gate 14 (by Euro-American Cargo) to your Aircraft. [...] This level of access, vehicle access/driver privileges, will require you to under go a Criminal History Records Check (CHRC) which entails fingerprinting at our Airport Police Station, as well as filling out the application and getting your photo taken. [...]

The second level of access will be unescorted pedestrian access through Swissport. Swissport will verify your badge and buzz you through their ramp access door. This will require that you fill out the application with the Airport Police and get your picture taken. [...]

Fingerprinting and ID Badging will be have special hours over the next 3 weekends. Times, Dates and procedures are in 2002-2003_Access_Memo.pdf (PDF). You can download and print the 2002-2003_Access_Application.pdf (PDF) to get a head start on the process. Don't forget to bring proof of insurance!

Call ORH Police in advance at 508 799-1348. It takes around 15 minutes to complete the process, and only one can be done at a time. So Call Ahead to avoid a wait. The original airport rules 2002-2003-Airport_Rules.html still apply, as modified by the rules specified on page 3 of 2002-2003_Access_Application.pdf

I'll gather up any questions and ask Eric for answers. To post a comment or question, click the Read More... link just below this sentence, then scroll down the screen a bit and press the [Reply] button on the right side, just below the first horizontal blue bar.

The whole process will take around 3 weeks. The FBI has to run the background check, and then the photo and application has to be sent to MAC for processing. Fee is $61 for vehicle access, $15 for walk-on badge.

I asked what the difference is between what we have now and the walk-on badge. With the badge, you just have to show it on the way out instead of signing out with Swissport.

I also asked about the Social Security Number on the application. It is required as part of the CHRC. It will not be printed on the badge and will be kept on the application in a locked file cabinet at the Airport Police. It also gets sent to MAC.

If anyone has trouble with the Adobe PDF documents, the original Meme_GA+Badge_Apps.doc and 2002-2003Airfield_access_application.doc can be downloaded in MS Word format.
