TFR's on Wednesday 18 May 2011

UPDATED: Windsor Locks TFR amended

George Clark writes: … Let's everyone try to avoid close encounters of the "F-18" kind.

There are multiple VIP TFR's for Wednesday the 18th that could ruin your day. Only two are listed, but there are 4 separate restrictions as the VIP travels between locations.

1/2879 is centered 4.3 miles west of the Boston VOR. The 30 mile ring is very close to ORH, FIT, SFZ and ASH. It runs from 1500 to 2230 Local time.

1/3204 and 1/3206follows the un-named VIP and is active over both New London CT and multiple times over Windsor Locks. TIMES AND COVERAGE OF TFR HAVE CHANGED

(Note that if the TFR's are modified, the links above will not be correct. Check with http://tfr.faa.gov/ for updated information, or better yet call Flight Service)

Remember that times and location of the TFR can change. Check with FSS both before and after departure. If a TFR changes after your briefing, or moves over you while enroute, you still are subject to enforcement. If the VIP is delayed or changes his itinerary, the TFR will follow. Best to get your N-Number recorded on a briefing tape or DUATs session. And Flight Following is good insurance as well.

According to the FAA, we still continue to violate TFR's at an alarming rate. Flight Following is good insurance. At our seminar earlier this year Bob Adelizzi reported that recently a pilot flew around a TFR using a GPS course offset. On his return flight, he reversed the course and forgot to reverse the offset. ATC watched and had no way to give the pilot a heads up that he was proceeding right into the TFR. Flight Following would have avoided a violation.
