The end of an era - the Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission

George Clark writes: … With the recent signing of the Massachusetts Transportation Reform Legislation, the Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission has been eliminated, and is incorporated into the Department of Transportation. The MAC has been a strong advocate of airports and aviation in Massachusetts. Hopefully the new Division of Aeronautics within the DOT will continue it's strong support of Aviation.

Thanks to Gregg Andrews for passing along the news to WAPA.

Subject: Massachusetts Transportation Reform Legislation

Good morning,

As some of you may know, last Friday Governor Patrick signed the MA Transportation Reform Legislation that was passed by the State Legislature two weeks ago.
Over the next two weeks, the MAC staff and I will be working with the Secretary Aloisi and his team regarding the the transition of the MAC to the Division of Aeronautics under the new Massachusetts Department of Transportation. Here is the link to the Transportation Reform Legislation:

http://www.mass.gov/legis/bills/senate/186/st02pdf/st02087.pdf

This is a brief summary of the legislation as it pertains to aviation:

1. The MAC is eliminated.
2. There will be 4 divisions created under the Massachusetts Department of Transportation. One of the divisions will be the Division of Aeronautics.
3. There will be an Administrator of the Division of Aeronautics who will be appointed by the Secretary of Transportation.
4. All current MAC laws and regulations will remain in effect with the new Division of Aeronautics.
5. The basic mission and function of MAC will remain in effect under the new Division of Aeronautics.

If have any questions or need additional information regarding the MA Transportation Reform Bill, please don't hesitate to call or e-mail me. Your patience and support during this transition period is greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Chris Willenborg
Executive Director
