ORH Gate Access cut off after March 9, 2007

George Clark writes: … ORH pilots should have received a letter from Eric Waldron this past week detailing the new TSA Security Directives that were discussed at the February meeting. However at least one based hangar tenant reports having not received any notice.

Unless you submit the required supporting documentation by 3/9/07, gate access will be deactivated until the updated information is provided! Update: As of 3/3/07, there are still 26 pilots on the list who will loose access on the 9th.

The TSA is doing an identity audit of all airport access badges. All must be complete by April 1st, so the cut-off at ORH is 3/9. Worcester has around 400 badges to verify, Hanscom, a few thousand, Logan, 20,000. All must be subjected to a "security threat assessment" by April 1st.

  • At the Feb. meeting, Eric stated that copies could be provided by mail. However the letter indicates that the applicant "must bring the appropriate documents".

  • And to quote from the letter "Under all circumstances (...) applicants will still be required to submit two forms of identification prior to fingerprinting and badging, even if only one from the "List of Acceptable Documents" was required"

  • We've been assured that "Furnishing the information is voluntary" however it may delay or prevent "security threat assessment" from being completed. (Read… you will not have access to your aircraft).

  • We asked at the meeting if we had provided a passport during vehicle sticker renewal last month, if that was acceptable. They now also need employer information, and have not yet said if we have to resubmit applications provided prior to 3/9.

  • It was also asked if any computerized information was protected with encryption and was all data thoroughly secured. [The required information is subject to mis-use in identity theft.] The question was not really answered to my satisfaction. It was pointed out again that compliance was voluntary. But if we don't volunteer the information ….
