Airfield Access Update at ORH

At the June meeting we had a brief training session covering airfield access procedures. Here is an update, and a reminder about the upcoming access badge expiration.

• Badges expire on the exact date printed on the badge. Most everyone begins expiring in July, and there is no grace period! (The access system is already programmed with the expiration dates)
• Access training must be delivered in person by ORH staff prior to renewal of the badge. Unfortunately it will not be possible to arrange for web based training. Regulations won't permit it.
  • (If you attended the June 1^st training, you should have filled out a training certificate at that time and left it on file)
• Update 7/10 A full background check complete with fingerprinting is required, and will take up to 2 weeks. The fingerprint machine is broken and the check is now done with traditional ink fingerprints. If your badge expires while waiting for clearance, you'll need escort again. Swissport will have to get approval from Airport Security to do the escort. If your application is not pending, then escort of an expired badge will not be permitted.

Application process

Here are more details about the training and badging process:

• Call 508 799-1348 for an appointment 24/7
• ID office is open daily 0600-1330, except Tuesdays and Wednesdays
• If you've taken the training, let the office know that your certificate should be on file.
• Cost is $61.Plus $15 per vehicle pass.
  • Renters and Student Pilots - $31

Rules from the training

To gain access, you need the following:

• A valid Worcester Airport issued ID with a green color code. (Mass Aeronautics IDs are not sufficient)
• Fingerprinting and background check (Takes 2-3 weeks)

If you are driving, you also need:

• A valid Worcester Airport issued vehicle sticker
• A valid drivers license
• Proof of insurance for $100,000.00

Notes on the badges:

• Badges remain the property of Worcester Airport.
• Badge must be surrendered on request, to Airport Police or Airport Operations Shift Manager.
• Badge must be worn at all times that you are inside the airport fence
  • It must be displayed on outermost garment
  • Must be displayed face out between neck and waist
  • Must not be covered by any other coats, or clothing.
• Badge gives you access to:
  • To and from access gate and to your aircraft in a T-Hangar, North Tie-down, or Amity Ramp

Vehicles

• Vehicles may be parked in your hangar or to the left of Gate #14.
• You may drive to your tiedown to load/unload but you must park at Gate #14
• You must not cross the movement area line.
  • 
• Speed limit is 6 MPH
• Always yield to aircraft and emergency vehicles
• Never drive under any part of an aircraft
• Always wait for the gate to fully close.

Escorting others

• You may escort any non-badged people traveling with you or working on your aircraft.
  • They may not leave your voice or visual range
  • Vehicles may not be escorted unless they have a current ORH sticker
• You may not escort anyone who has been issued an ID badge.
  • A friend or partner who has forgotten their badge is not permitted access without their badge under any conditions.
• Never let anyone piggyback onto the field. They must key in individually

Access

• Vehicles enter through Gate #10 (Swissport) or Gate #14 (Maintenance road)
• Walk-in must use Swissport or Amity
  • Walk-in gates are being repaired

Accidents

• If you are involved in an accident, contact Worcester Airport Police ASAP at 508 799-1348
• If you are involved in an accident with an aircraft, you must not move your vehicle until the airport police have responded and taken a report.
