Alton Bay Fly-in Feb. 19

February 19, 2005: The 16th annual regional Ice-Port Fly-In, open to everyone, sponsored by Aviation Association of NH (AANH). Land on the only FAA certified ice runway, Alton Bay (B18), on beautiful Lake Winnipeaukee, New Hampshire.

UPDATE 2/17: The AANH web is reporting:

The AANH -sponsored fly-in will not take place Feb 19, due to poor runway conditions. The airport management is working on the situation hoping to get it opened in time for our back-up date of Feb 26th. We will post more information here as it becomes available.

Where can you:

  • Land on water without floats?
  • Land an amphib on water with the wheels down?
  • Experience the directional control of a float plane, but on a hard surface runway?

Last year the ice was over 30" thick, the runway was plowed over 3,000' x 100', with a parallel taxiway and a parking area. We had everything from helicopters and twins to Cubs and experimentals. The event coincides with the Town of Alton's Winter Festival, featuring snowmobile racing, children's games, vendors, DJ and music, and the traditional Bed Race. Local shops and lakeside restaurants. The fly-in is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the winter festival activities are Noon to 3:30 p.m. $5 donations for 'I landed on the ice' trophy buttons. Bad weather date February 26, 2005.
