Young Eagles a Fantastic Success

The Young Eagles and Pancake Breakfast event at Worcester on June 12th, was a fantastic success. We flew 55 Young Eagles using 10 aircraft. The weather couldn't have been better. The event was planned for 9-12, however we continued flights until nearly 3pm to accommodate everyone. With the incredible turnout, we developed quite a backlog. The airport brought over the Snorkel truck to help entertain everyone while they were waiting. We appreciate everyone who hung in there and worked to handle the backlog. Several pilots flew 10 or more Young Eagles.

The Pancake Breakfast was well attended. We ran out of food by Noon and raised nearly $300 towards the Aviation Scholarship.

WAPA extends its thanks to everyone who participated or contributed to our success, especially the Pilots, Ground Crew, Swissport, Worcester Airport Operations and Tower personnel and David Clark Company.

Note: If anyone happened to pick up or recalls seeing a misplaced Olympus digital camera lost by one of the pilots, please send a note to info@worcesterapa.org or return it to Swissport.

"My son, … was a young Eagle today and we expect he will be soaring for days. Thank you and your organization for a great introduction to a hopeful young pilot. This was a truly exciting and enjoyable event."
And another letter

"I read of the Young Eagles program in the T&G a month or so ago and saw that introductory flights were going to be offered on my sons 14th birthday. I thought this would be a unique gift that may blossom into an interest in becoming a pilot (something I have always thought I would pursue myself). Little did I know that I would personally know three of the contributing pilots when we arrived at the airport! My son wasn't sure if he was going to participate until he saw familiar faces. It so happens that … (the pilot we flew with) lives in our town and his son plays sports with my son.

Along with the beautiful weather, the well co-ordinated event and the fabulous volunteers, we had a terrific experience that exceeded our expectations!

Would you please pass on our many thanks and best wishes to all that you have contact with? It was a morning that my son will not soon forget!

Perhaps another budding pilot has been born as well!

Thanks again and happy flying!"

I just wanted to say Thank You… My son Max had a great time, he went up with Mark and loved every minute of it.. The pancakes were a big hit also… Thank you for putting a nice family adventure together for the kids. I think it is something he will remember for a long time, And the smile on his face I'll remember for a lond time….. Thanks again…..

And one more:

Just a note to let you know that my son, Tim thoroughly enjoyed his ride and chance to hold the controls of the Cesnna 172 that he flew in. The pilot, Bill, was just great with him also. I think this is a smart thing that you are doing. Thanks. My son, and I will see you in Southbridge.
