TFR Thursday Oct. 9, 2003, in our backyard!

George writes: I received the following alert from AOPA today.

AOPA is sending this message to advise pilots in and near Portsmouth and Manchester, New Hampshire, that the FAA has issued notams restricting flight in those areas during President Bush's visit there tomorrow, October 9.

The notams establish two temporary flight restrictions (TFRs), each having a 30-nautical-mile radius with flight plan, transponder, and two-way communication requirements, and a 10-nm radius in which general aviation flight is prohibited. The Portsmouth TFR will be in effect from 8:55 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. local on Thursday.

See AOPA Online for the full text of the NOTAM. The Manchester TFR will be in effect from 11:05 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. local on Thursday. The notam .

Landing facilities affected by the Portsmouth TFR are Pease International Tradeport (PSM), Littlebrook Air Park (3B4), Hampton Airfield (7B3), Skyhaven (DAW), Plum Island (2B2), Sanford Regional (SFM), Lawrence Municipal (LWM), Biddeford Municipal (B19), Manchester (MHT), Merrimack Valley SPB (MA2), Alton Bay SPB (B18), Beverly Municipal (BVY), and Concord Municipal (CON).

Landing facilities affected by the Manchester TFR are Manchester (MHT), Boire Field (ASH), Concord Municipal (CON), Merrimack Valley SPB (MA2), Lawrence Municipal (LWM), Hawthorne-Feather Airpark (8B1), Jaffrey Airport-Silver Ranch (AFN), Hampton Airfield (7B3), Shirley (9B4), Fitchburg Municipal (FIT), Pease International Tradeport (PSM), Plum Island (2B2), Skyhaven (DAW), Minute Man Air Field (6B6), and Laurence G. Hanscom Field (BED).

Because TFR airspace frequently changes, AOPA strongly encourages pilots to obtain a briefing and CHECK NOTAMS before every flight. Violators will be intercepted and forced to land.

Pilots should be brave to they won't get scared it it's foggy and they can't see, or if a wing or motor falls off. --5th grade student
