Worcester Tie-down construction starts on June 2nd Delayed

Ron Stella writes: As you may be aware, on June 2, 2003 we will be closing down the Foxtrot Tie-Down Ramp, from Taxiway Bravo to the north end of the blue condominium hangar. This closure will last approximately 70 days and will affect all Tie-Down tenants and T-Hangar / Condo tenants facing West towards Euro-American, and the General Aviation Tenant Drivers. Below are the impacts and necessary re-locations and accommodations: UPDATE: 5/29/2003 Construction will be delayed for a few weeks. Tie-down area until 6/16, Condo Hangers, 7/31. More details in the discussion.

Anyone left in the Foxtrot side of the the Condo Hangars will be trapped for the duration! So don't get trapped!

Reminder:June deadline for airfield access badges is quickly approaching. The documents were missing from the server and have been restored. You can find them here with other ORH information

Tie-Down Tenants: Taxiway Foxtrot Tie-Downs will need to be moved to the relocated Tie-Downs on the North Side of Hangar 3 (the newest Hangar, near Swissport.) The relocated Tie-Down area is located near the old radio shop and directly East of the Condo hangar. Temporary Tie-Down blocks and ropes will be set up and in place by Wednesday, May 28. There will be three Tie-Downs per each aircraft and they will be raised above ground so you will need to hand push your aircraft back into and out of the parking location. Extreme care should be given when operating your aircraft in the vicinity of these above ground temporary Tie-Downs.

If you have already received your MAC Badge that allows for Vehicle Ramp Access, you may enter through Gate 10 and park your vehicle on the grass, east of the Condo Hangar, but south of the old diner. The space in this area is limited, so we are requesting that people who don?t have a great need to park near their aircraft continue to park at Swissport and walk the short walk to the are behind Hangar 3. Please do not park on the pavement, either near the old diner because that area will be reserved for construction use or near the T-Hangars because that will be used for taxi

West Side Condo Hangars: Since we are reconstructing the pavement up to your Condo door, access to this area will be closed, most likely for the duration of the project. We will need to close this area on June 2, so we would like you to move your aircraft before then. I have been advised that most tenants have made arrangements with Swissport for their aircraft to be put into their Hangar?s or are temporarily basing their aircraft at another airport. Tie-Down space is available free of charge for the duration of the project, but will need to be requested in advance by calling Airport Operations 508-799-1325.

West Side T-Hangar Tenants:Since the Foxtrot Taxilane will be closed, we are constructing a temporary Taxilane that will run parallel to the Foxtrot Taxilane, and connect to the old temporary Taxilane that runs between the Foxtrot Taxilane and the North Ramp. This is the same old temporary taxilane / taxi route that we used during the Foxtrot Taxiway Construction Project last year.

Since the temporary taxilane runs parallel to the construction area, extreme care should be exercised for your right wingtip, even though the temporary taxilane has been designed to meet the spacing criteria for your aircraft. In addition, care should be given when on the perpendicular taxilane that joins the Foxtrot Ramp to the North Ramp (Swissport Ramp) because of the obstructed view due to the south end of the T-Hangar building.

Badged General Aviation Tenant Drivers: The usual path to travel from Swissport / Horizon (North Ramp) to Amity / Radio Shop will also be closed. During the construction project you will need to drive from the North side of Hangar 3, past the North side of the Condo Hangar, out Gate 14 and then on to either the Fuel Farm or through Gate 18 to get to the Radio Shop and Amity.

Badged GA Tenant Drivers will receive the combo for Gate 14 from an Airport Operations Shift Manger before the Foxtrot Ramp closes. We will need to verify your ID badge prior to giving out the combination. You are only permitted to give out the combination to your own employees and those need to have a Worcester Airport ID Badge.

When the two construction projects are finished near the end of the summer we will have new gates at Gate 10 (Swissport) and Gate 14 (Tie-Downs), a new Tie-Down Aircraft Parking Ramp, new Tie-Down vehicle parking ramp, new pole mounted lighting at various locations, security upgrades and power feeds for future electrical outlets or heaters at the Tie-Down ramp. In advance, we thank you for your patience during this project. We wish minimize any inconvenience to your during this time. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at 508-799-1325.

Prop Locks

If you are moving to a tiedown from a hangar, don't forget that Massport requires Prop locks on all aircraft. Prop locks will be provided for the planes relocated from the hangars.

New Schedule

Sorry for any inconvenience, but the contractor needs to delay the start and phases of the construction project. The project will be starting on June 16, so Foxtrot Tie-Down aircraft will need to be moved ant time before this day. In addition, West-Side Condo tenants will not have to move until July 31. Instead of the contractor requiring you to be out of your hangar for 60-70 days, the time that the Condo tenants will need to be relocated will be 6 weeks. However, the estimated date that the entire project will be complete will be September 15.
