WAPA Notes

Some changes in the WAPA schedule for meetings this fall, Starting in September, meetings will move to the 1st Thursday of the month, some notes on the Worcester Airport renovations, status of the WAPA membership, and a brief summary of the 6/18 meeting follow…

The June WAPA meeting was held on 6/18 at the American Legion hall on Mill Street.

  • We plan to move the WAPA meetings to the First Thursday of each month, starting with the September meeting. Initial plans are to sponsor safety seminars quarterly.
    • September 5th
    • October 3rd
    • November TBD (conflict with the hall)
    • December 5th
The FAA prefers this date for safety seminars to avoid conflicts with other seminars in the FSDO. Please let us know if this is a big problem. Hit reply and add your comments to this story.

  • Eric Waldron reported that due to some glitches in the funding schedule, the renovations to the GA tie-down area will not start on time. Dates are not finalized, but it is looking like a 1-month delay.

  • We are up to 41 paid members. If you have not paid yet, please send your check in to Rich Tedesco. Everyone on our mailing list should have gotten a membership request. Our budget planned on 90 members, so we are almost half way there. If you didn't receive the mailing and wish to join, send an email to info@worcesterapa.org. And please spread the word to other pilots in the area!

  • If you missed the June meeting, you missed a great presentation. Jim Dunn talked at length about the electric airplane, and the technology involved in the project. He also is involved in the CarterCopter, a vertical takeoff and landing aircraft projected to cruise at 350 MPH at 45,000 feet (200 MPH at sea level). After the meeting, Jim took a group up to Worcester Airport to see the plane. Jim is looking for volunteers to help on the project.

  • Next month is a Safety Seminar. Tentative topic is Single Pilot IFR. Meeting will be on July 16th, at 7:30 PM at the American Legion hall.
